The prayer of the righteous

November 8, 2021

Dear Friends,

Be busy with prayer. It is your privilege as children of God to bring all your cares before your heavenly Father. Do not think of it as moaning or grumbling or complaining, which accomplish nothing. Quite to the contrary, your prayers are effective. They prompt God to take action. He invites your petitions so that he can go to work on them. “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5:16). It has great power because the one to whom your prayers are directed is all-powerful. It has great power because the God who created the heavens and the earth has commanded you to pray. And above all, it has great power because your heavenly Father is merciful and desires with his whole heart to bless you and give you good things. So, “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess. 5:17), and do not doubt that God hears your prayers and will answer them!

A few reminders!

First, we’re still live-streaming our Sunday and Wednesday services here: http://www.concordialcms.com/listen. If you’re home sick or can’t make it because of the weather, you can tune in and hear God’s Word from afar. It’s no substitute for being here, however. So don’t stay away, and think carefully about your priorities if there are other things in your life keeping you from church.

Second, Family Night is this week on Wednesday at 5:30pm. Come for dinner and some fun learning the Catechism!

Third, Men’s Bible Study meets next Wednesday (Nov. 17) at 8pm.

Lastly, mark your calendars for Thanksgiving Eve (Nov. 24) – we’ll have church on Wednesday at 7pm. It is a great opportunity to direct your gratitude towards God!

God bless and keep you,

Pr. Buchs
