Mark the time

March 10, 2021

Dear friends,

First, don’t forget to set your clocks forward on Saturday evening!

Then, just a brief preview of what is coming at the end of March/beginning of April.

The church marks time differently than the world does. Birthdays, anniversaries, tax day, federal holidays, summer vacation, etc. – these are the signposts that govern our calendars from day to day and year to year.

But in the church, time is marked by the life of Christ and his gifts to his people. Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, and Pentecost are our festivals, and they punctuate our calendar. Like the weekly rhythm of worship and the daily pattern of repentance and faith, this annual cycle helps us to order our lives around the worship of God. Nothing is more important, and keeping the festivals of the church helps us to ensure that we are not misled by the devil, the world, and our sinful nature to put the things of this life before the worship of God. So, plan to come to church as we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus!

Here’s the schedule:

Sunday, March 28 – Palm Sunday worship at 9am (Sunday School choir!) Thursday, April 1 – Maundy Thursday worship at 7pm Friday, April 2 – Good Friday worship at 7pm Sunday, April 4 – Easter Worship at 9am

Traditionally all three services from Thursday-Sunday are part of one big service called the Triduum. Three days of worship beginning with the betrayal of Jesus on Thursday, his crucifixion on Friday, and his resurrection on Saturday evening/Sunday morning.

Plan to come to all three!

God bless and keep you,

Pr. Buchs
