Salvation unto us has come

May 31, 2022

Friends,

When Jesus ascended to the right hand of his Father, he left his apostles with this charge: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).

The good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection is a Gospel for all people, and it is a message that is desperately needed. The church throughout the ages has felt the urgency of proclaiming forgiveness, life, and salvation to everyone who will hear. “For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ But how are they to call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?’ So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:13-17).

Together we have been made sons and daughters of God, and we have received a priceless inheritance! We believe because we have heard, and we heard because someone undertook to tell us of the surpassing love of God for us in Christ Jesus.

O Lord, open our lips, that our mouths may declare your praise! God grant us boldness and confidence to share the peace of God with our friends, family, and neighbors. By the Word of God may his Spirit bear witness to the redemption won for the whole world by the blood of Jesus. “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38).

God bless and keep you,

Pr. Buchs
