St. Luke

October 18, 2021

Dear Friends,

A bunch of information today:

First, a reminder that Men’s Bible Study will meet this week on Wednesday at 8pm.

Next, the Sunday School kids have been practicing the first verse of “Thy Strong Word”, which we’ll sing in church on Reformation Day (Sunday, October 31). It’s the final hymn, so we’ll have the kids in the balcony after Communion to sing the first verse.

If you’d like to practice at home, here are the words:

Thy Strong Word did cleave the darkness;
At thy speaking it was done.
For created light we thank Thee,
While thine ordered seasons run.
Alleluia, alleluia! Praise to thee who light dost send!
Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia without end!

If you’d like to hear the hymn, you can listen here.

Finally, the church will be open on Thursday, Oct. 28 (10am-6pm) and Friday, Oct. 29 (9am-6pm) for folks dropping off items and baked goods for the Bazaar. Thanks to everyone involved in this!

Information aside, here’s a prayer for you today. On October 18, the church remembers St. Luke, the physician, who wrote the third Gospel. He set out to give an orderly account of the eyewitness record concerning Jesus, his life, death, and resurrection. It’s a gift to us, who, 2,000 years later, still need to hear the good news about Jesus.

Almighty God, our Father, Your blessed Son called Luke the physician to be an evangelist and physician of the soul. Grant that the healing medicine of the Gospel and the Sacraments may put to flight the diseases of our souls that with willing hearts we may ever love and serve you; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

God bless and keep you,

Pr. Buchs
